GOP senator-elect holding onto governor post until Ron DeSantis takes over
Florida Sen.-elect Rick Scott has opted to remain governor of the Sunshine State until Republican Ron DeSantis takes over, delaying his swearing-in for the Senate to Jan. 8.
His fellow senators-elect will join the chamber on Jan. 3 at the start of the 116th Congress.
Gov. Scott will remain governor until January 8th, 2019, John Tupps, a spokesman for Scott, told the Tampa Bay Times. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has agreed to hold the ceremony for Governor Scott's swearing-in as U.S. senator from Florida that afternoon.
Tupps said Scott is delaying his move to the Senate because he promised to fight for Florida families every single day of his term as governor.

Nelson still leaves 1/3 and guess there will be no important votes.
What is up with these morons always "fighting for 'X'?"
Another gun bill maybe?
Agree...something is up.
Must be to give Dems more time to steal more seats?
Good!!
That, and they’re always “working hard” for whatever.
So why is DeSantis not becoming governor on time? That seems to be the reason for all of this.
that is when FL Gov takes office, Tampa Bay paper tells of Sen Graham leaving Jan 3, 1987 and Lt Gov taking office.
That, and theyre always working hard for whatever.

Another thing our President has exposed. Get a guy in there who wants to get things done and things WILL get done and quickly. It exposes the lie - from both sides - of “Oh! This is so hard! It will take 20 years to get THIS done or THAT done!. We have to hold a meeting...” -— all the while enriching themselves because of their position, or boinking whatever sex appeals to them and paying off sexual harassment complaints with our tax money. Congress is, truly, a bunch of worthless, corrupt losers - and our so-called “justice” system makes THEM look like a bunch of honorable saints.
Scott chose January 8 when he decided to run for Senator, had he chosen Jan 3 and lost Senate race he would still leave office Jan 3 not 8th.
“Florida’s “resign-to-run” law requires an incumbent office holder seeking another elective office to submit an irrevocable resignation from the office they currently hold unless that tenure would end anyway before they would assume the new position if elected. The candidate may designate the effective date of the resignation to be in the future, but it must be no later than the date that they would assume the new office. “
The Democrats would file a lawsuit if Scott did anything different.

Heres the left wing viewpoint on why hes staying until the 8th
The last time a FL Gov resigned a couple of days early to fill the Senate seat the Lt. Gov filled several cabinet positions with his cronies, before the oncoming Gov could accept the job.
The move is to stop a repeat of a Lt. Gov going crazy. Scott doesn’t trust his Lt. Gov.
It also might have something to do with 3 Florida SC justices leaving in January. All are Democrats and the FL SC is currently 4-3 liberal. Being replaced by either Scott or DeSantis would make the FL SC 6-1 conservative. Therefore Scott could be wanting to prevent the possibility of a rogue action to replace the Democrat justices with more liberal justices.
Is that an editorial or a news article? At the top it claimed to be the latest news, but it was pure, biased snark.
Best news is 1/3 the Senate will finally be FORCED into recess.
Trump had better be ready with a slew of junkyard dog recess appointments.
DeSantis *is* becoming governor on time - that is the reason for all of this. DeSantis can't become governor until the term of office for which he elected begins. Scott's term as governor does not end until 1/8/2019...he couldn't arbitrarily extend his own term of office.
How so?
