On a related note, our universities are also eaten up with this nonsense. It’s a measurable part of why college educations are so expensive, and our young people often start real life in a deep debt hole.

Well. I guess 27 people in the Veterans Administration taking up three million dollars that could be spent on patients is just chump change, and even though it doesn't add a single damn thing to contribute to patient care, at least it gives 27 people full time jobs they can't be fired from.
Multiply that by every other large government agency, add in some positions for small ones, and no sane or thinking person needs to wonder why our national debt is 21 TRILLION dollars and climbing.
