Combine "ballot harvesting" with the National Popular Vote movement, and one can see the danger that the Electoral College protects us from. Currently, all those "harvested" ballots stay in California. Can you imagine what would happen if they counted nationally for President? -PJ About thirty years ago, it was "common knowledge" that absentee votes never changed election results.
Said another way, absentee ballots reflected the average of votes.
Ballot harvesting is not traditional absentee balloting; it is going door-to-door asking people for their ballots. It assumes that the voter is distracted or otherwise disincentivized to vote, and gets their vote right there at their front door. I'm not sure if people even have to have a ballot or the harvesters bring blanks for people to sign and the harvester fills in the votes later.
It is illegal practically everywhere to ekectioneer within 50 to 100 feet of a polling place (including wearing hats, shirts, or even colors), but the polling place has moved to our front doors with the increase of vote-by-mail and no-reason absentee voting.
