A member of the Texas Republican Partys 2018 platform committee and former delegate for Sen. Ted Cruzs presidential run proudly declared himself a white nationalist.
Ray Myers took to social media last week and wrote Damn right, Im a white nationalist and very proud of it, The Texas Observer reported Tuesday.
I am Anglo and Im very proud of it, just like black people and brown people are proud of their race. I am a patriot. I am very proud of my country, Myers explained in an interview with the outlet. And white nationalist, all that means is America first. Thats exactly what that means.
"Thats where the presidents at," he continued. "Thats where Im at and thats where every solid patriotic American is. It doesnt have anything to do with race or anything else.
Myers compared using the term white nationalist to the Black Lives Matter movement.
I mean, just like Black Lives Matter, white lives matter, too, Myers said. Were all in the same melting pot. Now why cant we say, as Anglos, that were proud?
The Texas Republican Party did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Hill.
President Trump was criticized in October for railing against globalists and referring to himself as a "nationalist."
He denied that the term nationalist has any racial undertones, implying his use of the term along the lines of international trade and patriotism.
"Ive never even heard that. I cannot imagine that," Trump said when asked if his comments imply that he's a white nationalist. "Im somebody that loves our country."
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) describes white nationalism as akin to white supremacist or white separatist ideologies that often focus on the alleged inferiority of non whites.
The Ku Klux Klan, neo-Confederate, neo-Nazi and racist skinhead groups could be described as white nationalist groups, the SPLC states.
J.T. Edwards, an African-American member of the State Republican Executive Committee, condemned Myers comments, according to The Observer.
To have so-called white nationalists in our party is basically an abomination of the very foundations of the Republican Party, said Edwards. If youre not part of the solution, youre part of the problem. Mr. Myerss position is part of the problem.
Myers, 74, has been involved in GOP politics for years and founded Kaufman County tea party chapter, The Texas Observer noted.
He was a member of Cruzs Texas Leadership Team during his presidential campaign in 2016 and wrote on his Facebook profile that he later became a Trump volunteer.
ETC...
Why doesn’t the Hill question minorities on why THEY are proud? If they can be proud of their heritage so can we.
Bou aren't you right. This guy should take a page from George HW Bush, there's no need to go around breaking furniture these days.
Polite and very respectful is the way to get things done.
His phrasing and further description counteracts the race baiting identity PC language the left has sold you to dance to.
He is mocking the left, as he should.
Our big problem is that there are too many Democrats in Congress.
With a whole boatload of them on our side of the aisle.
i guess it can be spelled both way- linguini is flat pasta while linguine is flat- ok failed joke on my part- lol
I don't care anymore. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. Liberals wanted to make this a race war, and they will find out when they get it, that this was a very bad idea.
You’re right, I didn’t get the joke ;) I’m a computer programmer and in the middle of some interesting mathematics logic. . .it induces a sort of temporary autism. (Only partially joking.) It usually diminishes after a few hours of normal life and a glass of wine.
He doesnt sound like a white nationalist. Maybe hes confused or he was misquoted. Or hes being misleading.
Ah, I see. First thing is that if the GOP can be destroyed by a few words that someone misinterprets, it’s on it’s last legs anyway.
The key is that he is Tea Party - it is a rebellion against the GOPe that works harder to please and appease socialists/democrats/progressives in its insatiable craving for approval from the media, than it’s base. Most of us are in full agreement with the Republican Party Platform, but the GOP is backloaded with liberals who either don’t read it or don’t agree with it. It’s very frustrating.
Read Saul Alinski’s “Rules for Radicals” and George Orwell’s “1984”. . .that is the game by which they are killing us (sovereign citizens) with a thousand paper cuts. I like seeing someone stand up to it, even if some are annoyed by it.
If there are any active tea parties in your community, you should attend some of their meetings. They are incredibly well informed and have more historical, political and societal scholarship than any other group I’ve encountered. Ray was also a Ted Cruz supporter. Ted is one of the premier Constitutional scholars of our time, and he too can be abrasive at times.
Yes, some radical nutcases as well, but Ray Myers is not one of them. I’m in Dallas and we have crossed paths on occasion. He’s held in very high regard in these parts.
There’s not a thing wrong with what he said.
Not substantively, not tonally.
Good heavens, if we can’t be proud of what and where we came from, and what we have accomplished—BLEEP THEM.
So you can be proud of getting your privates snipped off, but not of your heritage and how you have honored it?
Seriesly???
I’ve read all that many times. As I said, I wish the obtuse ones would just leave us alone.
I am a nationalist that happens to be white.
I understand. Best wishes.
Especially when they are expected to accept their ultimate fate of extinction.
Lol!
Which is better, the White Caucus or the Caucasian Caucus?
Actually notice how Democrats have their racist caucus called the Black Caucus.
Notice how Republican’s Freedom Causes is about success.
Too bad half of Americans are too dumb to know the difference.
I agree. Every white person who is not ashamed of being white and is a patriot should stand and say the same thing. I think some leftist came up with this "white nationalist" phrase to belittle white people who are proud of their country by making it sound like they are KKK type white supremist. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In the right context every white American should be a white nationalist in my opinion. I'd like to see every black American stand and say they they are Black Nationalists in the same context which is just black and patriotic to America. Same for all brown and other people.
It's time we stop letting the leftist propaganda media control the narrative.
And I believe he expressed himself very well.
'Other people can say they're 'proud of their own people' and I can say I am proud of mine'.
