A former NBA player has filed a lawsuit against United Airlines for $10 million, accusing a flight attendant of “race-baiting.”

According to the lawsuit filed in New York Eastern District Court, the incident unfolded on July 13 on United Airlines Flight 1537 from Las Vegas to Newark Airport in New Jersey.

Murdock, who is black, asked a flight attendant whether he could move to an empty emergency exit row behind him to sit alongside his son, who was seated in a different row.

According to court documents, the stewardess, a white woman, told Murdock the seats he was looking to move to cost a premium price, although she did not specify how much.

Shoulda flown Southwest. Pick your own seats. Sit together. Probably cheaper, too.

And I’m trying to figure out how an exNBA player doesn’t have enough money to buy the slightly more costly tickets (it’s like $40 bucks extra), so he could sit with his kid.

Well, they get extra money for the seats, most of the time, so apparently some poeple are willing to pay extra for them, which makes them worth it.

I would never pay extra for them; of course, I like to sit in the back row of the plane if I can, mostly because I feel less trapped. And I like to say that if the plane crashes into something, I’ll be the last to die.

Why not just wait til the seat belt sign turns off, then move there? No one is going to care, The FAs aren't going to watch you and ask you to move back. It's just like a baseball game - you have assigned seats, but any empty seats are up for grabs. The only issue is if someone else has that seat number, and you don't move when they show up. But on a flight, no one new is gonna show up and tell you you're in their seat.
