State of Texas: Lawmaker targets Texas DREAM Act

A Texas lawmaker filed a bill to repeal a law that allows college students, who came to the U.S. illegally, to pay in-state tuition. Right now, students are eligible for in-state tuition under the Texas DREAM Act if they’ve lived in Texas for three years, are seeking legal status and if they graduated from high school or received a GED. State Rep. Kyle Biedermann (R-Fredericksburg) says he filed the bill because taxpayers are paying for students that are not Texas residents. “We’re giving taxpayer funding to those people that came here illegally, that broke the law,” said Biedermann. “That’s just not right.” “It’s in his interest to do this kind of bill,” said James Barragan with the Dallas Morning News. But he thinks it's divisive, and will be difficult to move forward,. ”Overall, the majority of the House is not going to have an appetite for it,” Barragan said. Lawmakers have made several attempts to repeal the law in recent years. All of them failed, in part because many in the business community support the Act.

Yes, they have the right to an education - in Mexico. Quit making US taxpayers foot their bill.

This was an inexcusable move by former governor Perry. What was he thinking?

If I understand it correctly they still have to pay in state tuition.
It is NOT free college like in Calif.

I am ok as long as they actually pay the tuition
and not take scholarships grants etc.

Perry is another Bush League Republican who loves illegal aliens and muslims more than Americans.

They are ILLEGAL aliens.
Citizens of OTHER countries ILLEGALLY in our country.
Why should US citizens from other states have to pay more than ILLEGAL aliens?

Perry, despite what many on FR claims, is no friend of conservatives. Never was, never will be. Gov. Goodhair Perry held his finger up to determine which way the wind was blowing in uber liberal Austin, TX and voted that way. Remember, he also pushed to have his good buddy’s HPV vaccine at schools.

So, NO problem-o w/:

- Aiding & abetting criminals?
- Elevating the same over the lawful (the former ‘out of State’rs doesn’t get ‘in-state’ pay levels, let alone the criminals taking the spots available that could have gone...)

Not only that there are supposedly 63% of illegals in the US on welfare costing taxpayers billion of $$. As long as the cesspool in DC exists, the Republicans will want cheap labor and the Democrats will want the votes.

I would have sworn there was a bill that forbid universities from charging out of state tuition to any American citizen if they gave in-state tuition to the illegals...

If not, there should be.. or, at least, pull all federal funding/grants to those colleges and deny their students federally-backed student loans.

Of course they are ILLEGAL and should not be here
BUT they are here
and whether you want to admit it or not there are not enough people who would vote to send them back.
We should have done that ,ong ago.

So IMO the b est we can do is prevent them from becoming citizens whihc is what the idiot left wants to do. Let them have GREEN CARDS BUT no CITIZENSHIP.

Along with that if they want to pay their own way to college ok
let’s control as much as we can
WE can’t control whether they stay or not
sadly that ship sailed long ago.
