House Speaker Paul Ryan has announced that President George H. W. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol this week, giving Americans a final chance to pay their respects. The 41st president passed away peacefully in his home in Houston Friday night.
The late President George H.W. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda beginning with an arrival ceremony on Monday at 5:00 p.m. ET. The public is invited to pay their respects from Monday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET until Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 a.m. ET. Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) December 1, 2018
Ryan recognized the late president on Saturday, along with several other prominent lawmakers and presidents. Here were just a few of those messages.
George H.W. Bush was a man for all seasons: a war hero, statesman, and affectionate family man. In our sadness today, we express our deepest condolences to the Bush family. We give thanks to God for the life of this patriot. pic.twitter.com/jBMP5nfEsh Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) December 1, 2018

America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight and all who were inspired by George and Barbaras example. pic.twitter.com/g9OUPu2pjY Barack Obama (@BarackObama) December 1, 2018
The New York Times reports that Bush Senior's final hours were peaceful ones
I cant even hardly talk about it without welling up, said Bush's former secretary of state, James A. Baker III, who was at his side Friday. It was as gentle a passing as I think you could ever expect anyone to have. And he was ready.
Bush 41's last words to his eldest son, former President George W. Bush were, "I love you, too."
Both Bushs greased the skids for the Leftist tyrants - GHW brought us the Clinton and W brought us Obama.
The Bushs are poster-child RINO’s IMO.
Sorry that rubs you the wrong way. Can’t help it. IMO the Bushs did much more harm than good to America. Saying they didn’t do as much harm as the Carter, Clinton, or Obama deflects and misses the point.
GHW is in Heaven and God bless him. But he was tone deaf to America’s best interests and was a key player in the Left’s drive toward the “New World Order” and Global Totalitarian Government.
I don’t really care
AMEN and AMEN
This forum is no better than DU. You represent everything I hate about the democrats.
That’s hysterical, considering the Dems are fawning over H W Bush. But I’ll up you one bona fide Tea Party 1.0 Palinista’s conservative credentials.
“Although he was not exactly my favorite President, I liked First Lady Barbara much better...”
I found his wife loathsome. I think she was one of those women who worshiped her family. She would take care of them, fight for them, and heaven help anyone who she viewed as a family opponent. That might be pleasant for the family, but she was harsh on anyone outside her family. Particularly social conservatives.
“In fact, Barbara Bush was always pro-choice, and so was her husband, until of course he had to run for President. Then women went right under the campaign bus. Sound familiar?
The Bush family has a long history of support for Planned Parenthood. Prescott Bush, father of George H. W. Bush (Bush 1) and grandfather of Bush 2 was the treasurer of Planned Parenthood when it launched its first national fundraising campaign in 1947...
...While the Bush family supported Planned Parenthood, George H.W. Bush also strongly supported the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) before he became President. During his years as Ambassador to China in the mid-seventies, he became a China expert, and even sometimes argued on behalf of the Chinese one-child program (to which UNFPA has no connection)...

In a November 2010 interview with Larry King, Bush was asked about former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Bush remarked, “I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she’s very happy in Alaska, and I hope she’ll stay there.” - Wiki
“We should be working on the commonness underneath this umbrella,” she said. “And, fine, you’re pro-choice. I understand that. Great, you’re pro-life. I understand that, too. And I know that you can argue yourself blue in the face, and you’re not going to change each other’s minds, and it’s a waste of your time and my time to try to change minds. People feel very strongly both ways.”
She was then asked whether abortion and homosexuality were issues of personal preference. “Indeed they are,” she said.

Daughter-in-law Laura Bush, wife of the 43rd president, said Mrs. Bush was “ferociously tart-tongued.”
“She’s never shied away from saying what she thinks. ... She’s managed to insult nearly all of my friends with one or another perfectly timed acerbic comment,” Laura Bush wrote in her 2010 book, “Spoken from the Heart.”
In her 1994 autobiography, “Barbara Bush: A Memoir,” Mrs. Bush said she did her best to keep her opinions from the public while her husband was in office. But she revealed that she disagreed with him on two issues: She supported legal abortion and opposed the sale of assault weapons.

Laura Bush is also pro abortion.
And she and her daughters were in favor of Obamacare in the year 2009. You read that right... 2009, during the incubation period of the Tea Party.
You must be some RINO sleeper plant, btw.
Were you okay here on FR when W Bush was advocating open borders and amnesty during wartime? You know, during the time period when he coined the reverse racist meme “Illegals just doing the jobs Americans don’t want to do”
Some of us weren’t fooled, even then.
When does ratface Ryan abandon the nest?

Bush Sr. recently voted for Hillary Criminal and her SCOTUS instead of the GOP nom. After we put him and his son into the White House. He earned in spades every bit of derision he got.
Your “thank you sir may I have another” attitude is everything I loath about doormat Marquess of Queensberry Republicans.
FR evidently was “Swamped” at its inception. Now I know how Trump feels... stepping in Swamp cr*p just when you think you’re in safe, normal conservative hands.
If President Carter had passed this weekend after recently voting for Trump I can guarantee you exactly ZERO Democrats would be eulogizing him today.
And zero Republicans.
I don’t get your point?
If he had said during the 1992 campaign I made a big mistake. I trusted the Democrats in Congress to cut spending and they stabbed me in the back. They should NEVER be trusted., then he would have won by a landslide.
GHWB was shot down by the Japanese, not the Germans.
Right. You do understand that Japan and Nazi Germany were on the same side against America during WWII, correct?
So H W Bush’s dad was funding the Axis Powers/Nazis at the same time H W Bush was fighting the Axis Powers (consisting of Japan and Nazi Germany et all).
No wonder those WWII vets came out of hiding during the 88 campaign against H W Bush.
Sorry! I forgot the /sarcasm tag.
