“Alcohol is MUCH MORE a gateway drug than weed.”

They’re different, with different physiological affects/triggers. Some get addicted to booze. The great majority do not.

Booze, to me, is ‘gateway’ in that while on ot, inhibitions are reduced, and poor decisions often follow: “Hold my beer and watch this!”
“Oh, let’s go to your place.” or “Lemme try some of that chit.”

Pot, otoh, generally lessens IQ. Been observing that in many others for 45 years, noted it in myself during college studying.

And for pot, an even greater majority do not.
