They tend to be good eating. Have not hunted squirrels for many years.

They were hunted intensively by the pioneers. I always thought it amazing they considered a squirrel worth the powder and shot, but squirrel rifles used very little.

A quick story; I grew up in central Arkansas where the trees are pretty tall. I was out squirrel hunting one day, happened to look up in a tree and way up near the top was a big squirrel nest. Looking closely, I saw a piece of fur kinda overhanging the edge of the nest. Thinking it was a squirrel I shot at it with my trusty 22. All of a sudden the nest sort of exploded and a big ole raccoon came tumbling down through the branches , hit the ground and ran off. Scared the heck out of me for sure and probably the raccoon as well! Thought for a moment I had bagged the worlds largest squirrel 🐿! Anyway, was pretty exciting for a ten year old boy 😳...
