I drove a Cruz as a rental car — it wasn’t bad at all.
Of course, they are going pedal-to-the-metal with electric cars even though their electric car sales are disappointing. This tells me that PC is at work here.

The only reason to buy an electric car is to impress your liberal friends.

I think they’ve calculated that they will lose less money making small numbers of electric cars than large numbers of (also money-losing) gasoline-driven economy cars to meet the EPA average fuel economy mandate. Ford came to the same conclusion months ago. It makes sense for Detroit because its small cars are inferior in reliability to Japanese and Korean makes, meaning their unit volumes are low enough generate substantial losses, and their brands are not as prestigious as German makes, which means they can’t charge more for these small cars to make up for their sub-economies of scale production numbers.
