A Miami-based political committee has proposed a constitutional amendment that would ban possession of assault weapons in Florida if approved by voters.
The proposal, backed by the committee Ban Assault Weapons Now, was posted on the state Division of Elections website this month. The committee had raised nearly $410,000 since March, while spending almost $284,000, according to finance information. The expenditures included $75,000 last month to a California-based company for what was described in the finance information as petitions.

That’s a good point. Your .223 AR15 could declare itself a single shot rife and your 9mm semiauto pistol a revolver.
Not so fast buckaroo! A while back there was an active twitter thread about how the black-powder Hawkins buffalo rifle was an assault rifle because it used a 50 cal slug. When you get to the brass tacks, NOTHING is acceptable to the snowflake contingent! Once guns are banned, they move on to blades, like kitchen knives etc. NOTHING SATISFIES until all are condemned to have trimmed fingernails at all times! (Even then I may be of insufficient imagination!)
No ban. No registration. No anything.
Bans only affect those who will comply. Registration has never stopped any bad act. It’s a prelude to confiscation.
Gun bans haven’t worked going back to Lexington and what happened on the road to Concord. Liberals forget history and what happens here in a mass ban & confiscation.
Yes, the idiots already decided it’s ok for felons to vote and passed judgement on dog racing, a completely legal and legitimate business.
DeSantis and the legislature need to get up on this on Day 1.
If this passes, I will be selling my property in Okeechobee! The property my wife and I saved up to buy for many many years!
WTF IS WRONG WITH FLORIDA!!!
It is like everyone has gone crazy in a short time down there.
And the promoters, financers, and any other party responsible for attempting to place such an amendment on any ballot shall be guilty of sedition and subject to the death penalty.
I know the feeling. I've lived here most of my life. I've watched this state go from one of the first to make it easy to get a concealed carry permit to making it a felony to possess or purchase a bump stock and prohibiting the purchase of ANY firearm by 18-20 year old adults.(Courtesy of Republican Governor Rick Scott and a Republican controlled state legislature )
This ban hasn't gotten enough signatures yet to make it on the ballot but they have 2 years. And we have 2 years to stop it. Stay tuned and don't panic yet.

I pray they don’t get the signatures. We found the perfect (to us) property just south of Rt.70 and east of downtown Okeechobee in the cattle land. We have been saving like crazy for the past year and a half to hopefully start building in 2020. But is this goes through we will DEFINITELY be putting the property up for sale.
It will be heartbreaking for us and we’ll have to start looking again fora nice 10 acre parcel SC or maybe Georgia, but we wanted the ability to grow food year round and raise some farm animals.
Please GOD, let the people of Florida come to their senses and see what the Second Amendment was put into our Bill of Right for.
Sometimes they will slip two of them under one heading ....

Yep, I have noticed that too. And I don’t understand how it gets on the ballot. I really thought that in the past I had seen measures removed from the ballot for covering more than one issue.

Not everyone, but it hasn’t really taken all that long. Maybe 30 years.
