Make it as real as possible in depicting the 12th century. Brutal knights and thuggish lords shaking coins out of swinish peasants and canny merchants. Everybody in it for their own interest while having some cleric or clerk utter hypocritical bromides on the social order. Robin Hood a near thug who came up second best in a fight with a bigger liege lord. His merry men pretty much ronin like broken knights and unemployed mercenaries gathering a growing band of the dispossessed and the criminal from the lowest social strata. Conduct a guerrilla war against the much better armed and equipped government forces who are competent but brutal professionals. That wold have some viewer interest especially if it becomes clear Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham are just two sides of the same coin.

Speak for yourself. I’m 60 and I still believe in heroes who manage to do things just because they are right. And the 1100s may not have been as thuggish as you portray it. There were educated & even Christian folk back then.
Your retelling sounds more like Washington DC than the England of the 1100s.
