Rush hasn't backed down one bit. What he told the woman caller, that prompted Gino's tirade, is to persuade with conservative arguments without stating up front that "I am a conservative."
I use this technique all the time with the young adults where I work and you see the light bulb go on in their heads. If you start off with "I'm a conservative and I think blah, blah" you lose them immediately, because they have been indoctrinated into believing that conservatives are stupid, bad, uncool and haters.
They are receptive to conservative messages as long as you don't put labels on them.
That was Rush's argument.
Gino is a clown. You're not going to persuade anyone or build any credibility with people by screaming in their faces.
I guarantee you that Gino is looked upon as the neighborhood crank, the get-off-my-lawn guy.
PS: Chicken parm is pedestrian. Veal parm is where it's at.
