There are 3 POEs at Calais. All three cross the St. Croix river, which is swift and usually pretty dam cold year round. The BP has been reinforcing these POEs now for a number of years utilizing high tech equipment and tactics.
1. Is the ancient bridge at Milltown that the locals tend to use to avoid the tourist traffic in the summer. It could easily be defended, or blown,...no great loss. 2. The downtown Calais bridge which is a little newer and higher above the river also easy to defend. 3. there is the new “state-of-the-art” bridge just outside of town. It’s an armored fortress.
Even if they swarmed and managed to cross there, there is nowhere to go for a 100 miles in any direction, and knowing the locals from the area, they’d eat em alive for target practice. It would be a bad choice for an invasion.
