In China, the State is the religion - they don’t tolerate dissent. This story represents the least brutal of Chinese tactics of repression, in a country where the revered communist leader Chairman Mao was responsible for 70 million deaths.
As much as I detest Islam and Islamists, I see the writing on the wall when governments are granted this much power.
Oppression of dissent is more subtle here in the USA, but it is rampant in key institutions such as college campuses.
And it’s growing.
But not that of Mahometanism. The Hui are Han Chinese Mahometans and outnumber Uighur Mahometans generally, even in Sinkiang IIRC. Uighurs are an ethnic group, a Turkic people.
Muslims, like everyone else, have the right to be left the heck alone.
The Red Chinese regard Christianity as a similar threat.

They weren’t Nazis. Anyone willing to live peaceably under the Emperor’s rule was left alone. But populations that rebelled were dealt with collectively. Civilian populations that supported armed rebels were punished along with the actual combatants. You might say that it was unfair that people who were innocent or neutral were punished along with the rebel’s actual supporters. But the state did not have the resources to investigate the rebels to the point of establishing guilt beyond reasonable doubt. And to investigate it to that extent would have diverted resources needed to fight the rebels. So they cast a wide net and killed large numbers in exemplary massacres designed to deter anyone thinking of helping the rebels.
I understand Orwell’s 1984 is currently held to be the apex of what a totalitarian state can do to ensure obedience. Nothing could be further from the truth. The old, much more economic method, was to kill suspected rebels along with their closest kin and acquaintances, numbering perhaps in the thousands or tens of thousands, while seizing their property. I’m all for crushing Islam wherever it exists - but only because they threaten me and mine.
There are cannibals living in Asian jungles too. We here don’t seem to care about what they do and that’s likely because they don’t have a bone to pick with anyone outside of their dinner.
So no, I’m not a fan of this sort of thing. I want nothing that China does to work because if it does - just like California law - it oozes it’s way out of China and into other areas.
These countries should just round them up and drop them off at a border. Ours should do the same. Any country has a right to protect it’s self in anyway and for any reason they feel fit - but this is a bit ... Well..
