I have always lived in towns with a heavy Jewish population.
The kids get Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah off,but nothing else closes.
Adjacent towns get neither Jewish holiday off.
Your original post implied that the entire state of New Jersey traded Columbus Day for Yom Kippur——and that made no sense.

The Jewish population in those towns are nothing compared to Lakewood

Just about every school district in Central and North Jersey closes for Yom Kippur in exchange for going to school on Columbus Day, it has been that way for decades now
