As challenges to Facebook mount from consumer organizations, politicians and journalists, the company's leadership remains convinced that its recent crises are primarily public relations problems, according to people at the company.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's chief executive officer, and Sheryl Sandberg, the company's chief operating officer, believe Facebook's negative image is a public relations problem that stems from a bungled press strategy and sensational media coverage, not a structural or philosophical shortcoming that requires a wholesale course correction.
Zuckerberg and Sandberg have both publicly blamed the company's communications team for the decision to hire a conservative public relations firm that included what one former employee called an "in-house fake news shop."
Internally, the leadership's decision to blame the media and the press shop has driven a wedge between them and members of the communications team who feel as if they've been thrown under the bus, the sources said.
"It's total arrogance," one Facebook employee said. "Everyone is pissed."

Could it come crashing down? Gotta admit I don’t check every day anymore. It’s gone down to its lowest denominator over time. Maybe it’s natural. Kinda like the left wanting us to all get around on buses and trains.
He has DEAD eyes. Like an android.
wait’ll they find out it’s just a honey pot for the deep state.
My only wish for Christmas:
FACEBOOK DIES
GOOGLE DIES
Facebook’s business model. Create a fun place that entices users to reveal immense amounts of personal information. Use that information to sell ads to people who want to target their ads to those who would be interested in the products.
Not part of a valid business model: block thoughts that don’t fit in with the democrat party’s agenda. Promote the democrat party.
Depends who you communicate with. My family and friends on there certainly aren’t part of a lowest common denominator.
I disabled it on my phone a few months ago. It was classic “out of site, out of mind”. I logged in a few weeks later and still the same useless crap in my news feed. I logged in saturday and, same thing. I’m over it.
When I used to use it I always found it funny that I’d search on and then buy a product at Amazon or some specialty site, then AFTER I bought it, I’d get a ton of ads on facebook for the thing I just bought.
I never so much as clicked on an ad in facebook.

Evil always snakes its way into human methods and means. Technology is not immune to its influence.
HA! Zucker is whining about fake news?! This made my day!
“a bungled press strategy and sensational media coverage,”
This Cambridge Analytica “scandal” would mean nothing had Hillary won. They did NOTHING illegal. Nada. But it helped Trump win, and that is unforgivable.
Sandberg will be fired before Turkey Day, and the stock will rally 10%
A Giant Amen!
They wanted to be Kingmakers. That’s the lure that brings them in. Then they mindlessly pushed the Russian collusion story without thinking that they were part of the collusion.
So they were only left with becoming the thing that they hated. We have met the enemy and they are us
I had much the same experience. Deleted the app from my phone, which meant I no longer received any notifications. Now I log in occasionally, usually it’s because I come across a post there that’s newsworthy for other reasons. When I do, I’m pretty unimpressed with what I’ve been missing.
Don’t you understand? Anything anyone does that helps Trump is by definition illegal (see e.g. the entire Russian collusion hoax). Anything anyone does to help Democrats is by definition legal (see e.g. Broward County elections officials). That’s how it works now in America!
Time to bail on facebook in favor of MeWe (or whatever it’s called)
