I’ve known of these friendships but they puzzle me. How can you be friends with somebody who hates your country more than bin Laden ever did, hates your God more than Satan could comprehend, hates your guns, your rights, white people, capitalism, and loves murdering babies more than normal people love lobster and filet mignon?
Incomprehensible to me.
Even Roseanne and Jackie were political opposites but loved one another.
But over the last few years? I’m slowly beginning to see how it’s really just basic Jesus 101, per John 13:35
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”Fwiw? My dad was a fairly hard core, practical conservative, but he was not at all religious and he strongly disliked preachers.
You had to earn his respect, his friendship, his love and pretty much any other positive he might feel about someone, so it’s kinda strange that he was the one who demonstrated that concept to me.
When and where he and mom retired, he was best friends and poker buddies with several life long, hard-core libs, one very high level NE D party.
His and mom’s daughters and grand daughters are all equally just as liberal, but no more arguing.
I asked him about it once before he passed. Said that family and friendship were more important to him than politics.
For someone who hated libs, bums and preachers back in the day, I’m amazed by how much he loved everyone in retirement.
I pray he rests in His Peace now.
