We become a second rate power if we split up now, and a third rate power if a Civil War splits us apart.

Some Californians are tuned into DiogenesLamp's way of thinking: that somehow they'd be on top of the world if only they could leave the union.

On top of all California's other problems, their wealth depends a lot on the US muscling other countries to enforce our copyright laws.

Without the US having all that power, much of California's wealth would melt away, just as the cotton kingdom's would have when cotton prices fell.
