President Trump will visit the victims of California’s deadliest wildfires on Saturday. The fires have killed 59 people and 130 more remain missing.
"The President will travel to California this Saturday to meet with individuals impacted by the wildfires. We will keep you updated on details as they are available," White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters announced Thursday.
The town of Paradise, population 27,000, was destroyed last week by the Camp Fire in northern California which has burned down more structures than any other wildfire recorded in California. The fire has destroyed at least 7,600 homes.
As of Thursday morning, the Woolsey Fire in Southern California burnt 98,362 acres and is 57 percent contained.
President Trump initially blamed the fires on poor management.
"There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor," he wrote in a tweet. "Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!"
California Gov. Jerry Brown responded Sunday that “managing all the forests and everywhere we can does not stop climate change and those who deny that are definitely contributing to the tragedies that we're now witnessing and will continue to witness in the coming years."
However, the two spoke Wednesday and seem to be on better terms.
“President Trump told me on the telephone yesterday that he’s completely behind California in getting this recovery underway,” Brown said.
"President Trump told me they’re going to do everything possible to help California in this time of need,” Brown emphasized. “There’s a lot of statements, a lot of loose rhetoric, but I think we’re on the right path right now and we’re going to all work together.”
A fire that selectively went after houses, cars, people but left trees and gasoline pumps alone?
While he is there, he can educate Californians about how their leaders’ forest management causes fires and how they are blaming the fires on a a fake climate problem. He needs to come out swinging.
Thank you for your visit,Mr.President.
I am sure there were trees that were burned. Maybe there were no gasoline pumps in the area. What do I know?
Is it climate change or gross mismanagement ?
From what I’ve heard the fires started as a camp fire on Federal land.

Shame Obama got rid of all those fire fighting planes.
It was started by PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) mis-handling a project. They also have “rules” in place to cut power should something be wrong. The guy in charge didn’t “think” it was bad enough to cut power.... and up she went.
Now Moonbeam has signed a law saying the population of the state will cover the damages in fees and taxes (or so I read) meaning the subsidized entity has nothing to worry about.
Gross mismanagement of federal forest land began during the Clinton administration. California forest land has been mismanaged for decades as well. Until policies change, and resources reallocated, these devastating fires will continue. There will always be wildfires, but better management can make them less devastating.
Heard this yesterday, but Moonbeam stopped the government from investigating (or something) the power line fires.

Look closer.
Paradise is in the conservative region of the state. Im quite sure they know of the need for better forest management. Problem is, they have no political power in that state.

I was not aware of that - have you a link to articles about his shedding them?
I’m interested for two reasons: 1. I am a retired Naval Aviator and am interested in all things aviation and 2. I hate Ophopnybama and need any/all examples to add to my list of reasons to hate on him.
I’ve heard it was a ‘splody transformer.
I remember hearing that the FS didn’t contract with some of the bigger ‘plane operators.
Not sure of why or the year(s).
IIRC, I remember the Lexington fire above Los Gatos in the Santa Cruz Mountains back in the mid-80’s and previously PG&E wanted to cut back tree branches 4’ from power lines but was successfully sued by an environmental group and was only allowed to cut them back 3’ and sparks too close to the trees started the fire....don’t quote me, memory is hazy but I remember thinking, way back when, What the heck?!?

Hope you can share this memory with a group that can investigate, confirm, and use it.
