Ted is simply is not likable. And, outside groups poured money into O'Rouke's campaign giving him a huge advantage.
That stunt at the convention cemented many people opinion of him as a person. Yes people will vote for him but I'd imagine many who do - don't much like him which makes generating enthusiasm around his candidacy much more difficult.
I think the lesson here is don't be a dick it'll cost you votes. This among other reasons is why I can never run for political office
You have to win to get elected, and Ted barely beat a lunatic liberal IN TEXAS. Ted has the JD and temperament to be a good Judge. As much as I wish people would vote on issues and voting records, vast numbers of people in our idiocracy vote based on Charisma, looks, social pressure and personality. Texas is getting too purple to run boring, awkward, uncharismatic candidates like Cruz. Same goes for Georgia and Florida, where lunatics came within a hair of winning against milquetoast Republicans, and AZ where we lost a perpetually RED seat to a socialist.
This is worth worrying about but it is also worth noting that native Texans voted less for Cruz than non-native Texans.
This suggests that conservatives are actually moving to Texas.
I really believe we need to seriously start looking at how surplus Republican voters can go and vote in other states that are reliably blue.
Tiny states like Vermont could be easily flipped if a small portion of Texas voters voted in Vermont. We need to be publicly discussing how to turn Vermont Red.
Imagine Bernie Sanders gone and replaced with a conservative
There are enough extra Republican voters in states to flip the small states.
This would drive Democrats bonkers because they cannot complain about voting out of state. That would be “voter suppression.” Buying or renting summer homes in these locations should suffice. We need to take these threats back at the Dems if we are to excite our base and get going again for our cause.
Cruz isn't likeable, but if Abbott had run against O'Rourke his margin of victory would have been less.
I'm also guessing that if Cruz had run against Valdez, he would have won more easily.
Abbott would have still won, no doubt. But the margin wouldnt have been so wide.
Beeto was able to energize the youth. That was his draw.
He spent a fortune, more than twice what Cruz spent. All Hollywood money.
The fake Hispanic gets his name in the headlines again. Name recognition for 2020.
Personally I respected him more because of what he did.
notice no one tells President Trump he needs to respect conservatives like cruz.
I do respect and support the President but I don’t think Cruz has done the wrong things on these issues.
Democrats spent a billion dollars on these midterm elections. They sent 80 million dollars to Texas to flip it. Beto took no meaningful positions on issues at any debate.
faux conservatives and radical liberals were joined together in playing the ‘hate his style’ game. I am not fooled by any of that.
I did not really like Beto’s style of having a drunk driving accident and running away from it. I didn’t like his style of being a very wealth individual pretending to be middle class.
I understand why the Media and the Elite do this. I do not and will not understand why individuals professing to be conservative to do this.
Cruz is an excellent communicator and his superior style and substance in the two debates is probably why he still won. Beto backed out of the idea of having six debates because he was getting whipped. Beto did get a free one hour infomercial from CNN— which is outrageous.
If there is a more conservative senator in the Senate, I would love to know who it is.
until then— I absolutely support Cruz.
This suggests that conservatives are actually moving to Texas.
Maybe, but you need to look at how many liberals are moving to Texas as well, and at what's happening to those Texas natives who are moving to the Democrats.
Transplants from Massachusetts vote for more conservative candidates in New Hampshire's GOP primaries than people who've lived their whole life in the state, but in the general election it looks like they have been outnumbered by Democrat transplants who join with natives who've moved to the Democrats.
Tiny states like Vermont could be easily flipped if a small portion of Texas voters voted in Vermont. We need to be publicly discussing how to turn Vermont Red.
Maybe publicly discuss how to keep Texas from going Blue.
Way too close. But $20+ Spent by per vote for Leftist.
Leftists spent over $20 per vote they got in TX... and still lost..
But still too close
Beto had coattails and helped elect many liberal Democrat judges and ten or so new state representatives and two state senators. Cruz had no discernible coattails. Several other statewide races were about as close a Cruz’s total vote.
Leftists spent over $20 per vote Beto got... money talks, but not enough
Define “true conservative” because Cruz isn’t one
You can’t be the “establishment GOPe pick” for president and be the outsider conservative at the same time
He outed himself
And he wrecked himself
He tried to steal the people’s vote by stealing Trump’s delegates, the reason why Trump got tangled with the Manafort character in the first place, thanks a lot Cruzer the sore loser
Beto sucks and will lose against Cornyn, he probably won’t even run again. Who knows. I thought he was going to be president now? Cause he is like a Kennedy! The media is drooling

None. There is no difference.
True. But mobilizing 800,000 illegal wetbacks isn’t good for America.

Easy:
pro life
limited government
pro religious liberty
patriotic to the United States
supports second amendment right to bear arms
pro market and opposed to regulatory burdens offered by Federal government
And by the way, the website of Free Republic provides a web page of the site’s values.
Senator Cruz is fantastic on those values.
I don’t seek to re-litigate the 2016 election but Cruz has been highly supportive of President Trump. I hope Senator Cornyn can win but he is absolutely not as conservative as Cruz. I do think Cruz’s successful case against the Bush administration on the death penalty for an illegal immigrant murderer in Texas is a classic indication of how deeply conservative and successful cruz is.
