Control of Afghanistan is about rare minerals. It’s not about ISIS or the Taliban. If we leave, expect China and Russia or some other outside power to fill the void. Think about it. There is no other reason to be there. We don’t give two Fs about the Afghan people. Even if we did, their Stone Age education level will never foster a working government.

And we have the winning post of this thread!!!!

Why?

When you review the record, the Taliban and Afghanis in general did nothing to offend Americans.

All they did was ask for proof that the person they were asked to extradite committed the crime alleged. Same thing that happens in every other criminal extradition everywhere in the world.

But GWB refused to provide them any proof, so they refused to turn OBL over.

The question to ask is: why did GWB not supply the proof the Taliban required to extradite the suspect?

I suspect the answer is that there isn’t actually any proof that OBL was responsible for 9/11.

China’s One Road/One Belt plan is designed to exploit the mineral wealth of Central Asia. The stated reason is to reduce transit times between China and Europe, but it’s really about extending influence and eventually control over Central Asia.

“It’s all worth it, if Afghani girls can walk to school” —that’s God’s way of saying you have too much money and can afford to pay others to fight for your stupid ideas.”

Very true.

The minute we leave the Taliban will take back over. It was always going to be that way. We need to leave.

14 of the hijackers were Saudi citizens, but those were muscle brought in late and kept out of the loop, not leaders. Not one of the pilots who knew the details of the mission was Saudi, and the lead hijacker’s cell in Hamburg Germany was organized and cultivated by two Syrians- one a businessman, the other “former” Syrian intelligence.

The ide was from a not very religious fellow named Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who most certainly was not a Saudi...so this planner is a Baloch from a separatist region of Pakistan called Balochistan that borders Iran. [And is mirrored there by Balushistan an Sistan provinces with similar gripes against Iran] Balochistan is sort of like Pakistan’s flyover country- Islamobad wants all the territory [a large part of Pakistan] and its resources but doesn’t care for the Balochs who make up just 5% of the population of Pakistan and have been diluted to only about 15% of the population of their own region and have almost no voice in the national parliament - there’s no electoral college setup over there or Senate to balance the interests of rural people vs city people or minorities vs the majority. They likewise haven’t got much say in their own region. So they have been bitter since Pakistan invaded the region years ago. Since then, Pakistan imported large numbers of refugees to the region, further diluting the Balochs’ ability to govern themselves. So there’s some pissed off Balochs out there for recruiters, and they may find it easy to recruit people like KSM against the US since the US supports what they see as “the swamp”, Pakistan’s regime in Islamabad.
So Baluchistan insurgents in Iran and Balochs in Pakistan turned to Saddam Hussein [not the Saudis] for support beginning in the 1950s...

There is one good option, we’ve made many contacts, we must maximize on the ground intelligence. Our mission should be to train recruit and train a vast network of spies -

I would have made the fire bombings of Dresden and Tokyo look like a weenie roast.

For me it’s personal.

Bin laden admitted to it. His second in command admitted to it, even his underling ksm admitted to it.

The shoe bomber, the fruit of kaboom bomber, and others have been traced back to al quaida.

The primary supporter of the taliban was al quaida

I don’t believe any of those claims can be verified.

What can be verified is the existence of 28 pages of top secret, still-classified documents that are reported by credible GOP congressmen to tell an entirely different story of who is to blame for the event.

Feel free to dive down the rabbit hole for yourself if you doubt that we do not have evidence that OBL did it, and that there’s a very very good chance the feds have been hiding all this time evidence that it was actually someone else (allegedly the Saudi government itself).

This sounds like elaborate neocon excuse-making, blaming Saddam Hussein for 9-11.
