President Donald Trump escalated his verbal assaults against France on Tuesday, suggesting that Americas stalwart European ally would have been vanquished in both world wars if not for the military firepower provided by the United States.
Trump tweeted about a suggestion by French President Emmanuel Macron that Europe build up its militaries because the continent can no longer depend on the U.S. for defense. Macron had also said Europe needs to protect itself against cyberthreats from China, Russia and the U.S.
Macrons comments were inaccurately reported and Trump continues to misrepresent them, seemingly for political hay. The French leaders office said Trump had lumped together Macrons remarks on protecting against cyber-threats and interference in our democracies from China, Russia and even the United States with Macrons later statement on military defense....

I thought this was a plain fact, at least in WWII. They were defeated.
France has already lost. They were occupied and all of Europe was basically defeated by the Nazis and it was only a matter of time before England would have gone under.
Not just France but would all of Europe and England have been Nazi subjects if not for the U.S.?

Is that the length of time it took for the nazis to walk across the country?
Is Paris burning?
If you remember, Operation Barbarossa started late due to the fact Hitler had to bail out Mussolini and his adventures in Greece. Had that not happened and Hitler advanced on Russia with the original time table, things might have been different.
I used to live in a farm house with an old panzer man that says he was there from Poland through Czechoslovakia in ‘45. Anyway, he says his unit was behind Moscow ready to squeeze the pincers when it began to fall apart.
Yes I know!
I wrote a previous FR post about the French Army mutiny of 1917. Pointing out this occurred after Verdun, Somme & 2nd Battle of the Aisne & that the Aisne battle was the breaking point. The thing that kind of help hold things together for the French Army was Petain’s leadership (yes him!) and the anticipation of the US entry. If we had stayed out, in my opinion the French Army would have collapsed and their would have likely been a negotiated settlement. I doubt if the British could have stopped it or even had the internal (by that date!) political will to try. It would have left Imperial Germany dominant on the continent but with a Social Revolutionary to Bolshevik Russia at their east. Might have been a better result for Europe & the world. Read the book “Myths of WWI” has some interesting & surprising commentary on all the participating armies.
the book might be titles “Myths of the Great War”!
Its been awhile since I read it.
This one? Looks interesting.
