The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age, wrote Dr. Tony Phillips just six weeks ago, on September 27, 2018. The lack of sunspots on our sun could bring about record cold temperatures, and perhaps even a mini ice age.
Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018 and Earths upper atmosphere is responding, says Phillips, the editor of spaceweather.com. The bad news, according to Phillips, is: It also delays the natural decay of space junk, resulting in a more cluttered environment around Earth.
It could happen in a matter of months, says Martin Mlynczak of NASAs Langley Research Center on the cold snap that may be coming. If current trends continue, it could soon set a Space Age record for cold, says Mlynczak. Were not there quite yet, he said. However, months is not all that far away.
Data from NASAs TIMED (Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics) satellite shows that the thermosphere (the uppermost layer of air around our planet) is cooling and shrinking, literally decreasing the radius of the atmosphere. This reduction of solar activity could result in a global cooling phase. The thermosphere always cools off during Solar Minimum. Its one of the most important ways the solar cycle affects our planet, said Mlynczak, according to The New American.
The new NASA findings are in line with studies released by UC-San Diego and Northumbria University in Great Britain last year, both of which predict a Grand Solar Minimum in coming decades due to low sunspot activity. Both studies predicted sun activity similar to the Maunder Minimum of the mid-17th to early 18th centuries, which coincided to a time known as the Little Ice Age, during which temperatures were much lower than those of today.

The glow-bull warmalists are not going to like this.
It’ll be fun to see the Warmists freezing their asses off.
They always disappear where stories like this emerge.
Central Texas is certainly cold.
This New Yorker is freezing in san Antonio today. 42deg and sunny at noon. Heats not on in the building yet this year. I can hardly type this. Shivering
Richmond is averaging 15 degrees below normal for the month. Bring on the snow.
Didn’t you get the memo? Global Warming has been banished like the n-—— word of the 1960s. You are supposed to call it Climate Change now.
Does James Hanson know this?
Mikey “Hockey Stick” Mann?
Hide the decline plot?
The Little Ice Age brought colder winters to parts of Europe and North America. Farms and villages in the Swiss Alps were destroyed by encroaching glaciers during the mid-17th century.
Canals and rivers in Great Britain and the Netherlands were frequently frozen deeply enough to support ice skating and winter festivals. The first River Thames frost fair was in 1608 and the last in 1814; changes to the bridges and the addition of the Thames Embankment affected the river flow and depth, greatly diminishing the possibility of further freezes.
Freezing of the Golden Horn and the southern section of the Bosphorus took place in 1622. In 1658, a Swedish army marched across the Great Belt to Denmark to attack Copenhagen.
The winter of 17941795 was particularly harsh: the French invasion army under Pichegru was able to march on the frozen rivers of the Netherlands, and the Dutch fleet was fixed in the ice in Den Helder harbour.
Sea ice surrounding Iceland extended for miles in every direction, closing harbors to shipping. The population of Iceland fell by half, but that may have been caused by skeletal fluorosis after the eruption of Laki in 1783.
Iceland also suffered failures of cereal crops and people moved away from a grain-based diet.
The Norse colonies in Greenland starved and vanished by the early 15th century, as crops failed and livestock could not be maintained through increasingly harsh winters. Greenland was largely cut off by ice from 1410 to the 1720s.
“The Lack Of Sunspots Could Bring Record Cold”
And yet the sun has nothing to do with global warming....Ya right.
We’ve been using up too much energy here on planet Earth, and now, the sun has been working hard to replace the spent energy on Earth, and so, we ended up with fewer sunspots, and as a result, we will be entering a cold era on the planet.
Thanks a lot you fossil-fuel burners. You made our planet warmer and now that’s coming back to bite us with an ice age.
If the rain pattern we have been experiencing here in Pa. since July continues, we will be shoveling snow next July. I told my wife that something has changed, don’t know what, but it has.
There can be no other answer.
Well we need to fire up those SUVs, come on Global Warming!
Read “The Chilling Stars” by Svensmark and Calder. They made this case 15 years ago, and now NASA is piling on.
