A federal judge on Monday ordered election officials to review thousands of provisional ballots that havent been counted in Georgias close election for governor.
U.S. District Judge Amy Totenbergs order calls for a hotline for voters to check if their provisional ballots were counted, a review of voter registrations, and updated reports from the state government about why many voters were required to use provisional ballots.
The court decision comes as votes are still being counted in the race for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp. Abrams trails Kemp and would need to gain more than 20,000 additional votes to force a runoff election.
Totenberg said shes providing limited, modest relief to help protect voters. The order preserves Tuesdays deadline for county election offices to certify results and the Nov. 20 deadline for Secretary of State Robyn Crittenden to certify the election. The ruling enjoins Crittenden from certifying the election before Friday at 5 p.m.
Her ruling applies to provisional ballots, which were issued to as many as 27,000 Georgia voters because their registration or identification couldnt be verified. Provisional ballots are usually only counted if voters prove their eligibility within three days of the election, a deadline that passed Friday.
The decision doesnt say whether additional provisional ballots could be counted after election results are certified at the county level Tuesday.

That means, hello suckface democrat, you just won.
Dxxxxit.
We have another week of this bullcrap?
Get this election certified and done
The provisional ballots that were not counted were because the person voted in another district (double voting), wasn’t registered or was an illegal alien.
What is there to consider?
This is INSANE !
Obama Judge
Do I need to say more?
I think these are the ones already discussed in fulton/broward county georgia. These are the double ballots I believe and ballots by non citizens.
Officials to review not count.Big difference.
At this rate, they’ll ask for recounts of Kavanaugh’s confirmation. And probably Gorsuch’s too.
A stay of this order needs to be sought immediately, together with an appeal. Everything we are seeing is a test run for 2020. The Democrats will cheat then to an extent that will dwarf what we are seeing now.
Oh I think it’ll be longer than a week. The minute you find such-and-such guy is listed in a second state as registered to vote....the whole process will slow down as they have to assess each and every provisional ballot voter. This could take two months.
I think this might be the end of provisional ballots....everyone will be grumbling about the way they work and how much corruption is tied to them.
Can mean the same thing if the wrong people are counting.
Totenberg’s sister is Nina Totenberg, the American legal affairs correspondent for National Public Radio. In 2008, Totenberg contributed $1750 to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
RECUSE-— MS. Federal Judge— you are an activist. Kemp— do NOT agree to allow this— on this basis alone!
Recall that Nina Totenberg was the START of the Clarence Thomas high tech lynching== against a black conservative judge candidate. THIS is who these people are. Nina Totenber g’s scoop was her report of sexual harassment allegations made against Clarence Thomas by University of Oklahoma law professor Anita Hill, leading the Senate Judiciary Committee to re-open Thomas’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
The State of Georgis is NOT obliged to follow a directive of a Federal Judge— the Constitution of the US is clear on the subject of State’s management of state and local elections. This is a Governor’s race— not subject to Federal judicial oversight. PERIOD.
A good outcome.
No good reason the time used in the verification tasks of a provisional ballot couldn't be done prior to an election rather than after.
I had to vote via provisional ballot once. I registered to vote when I was 17. A few years later, I married and moved. I changed my voter registration to new location. When I went to vote, my name was not on the rolls, so they made me vote via a provisional ballot. The location where I moved was predominately black, so I guess they did not want my white vote.
In 2000 I registered to vote via mail. I never received confirmation that I was registered, so I went to polling place. Husband was on rolls, and he voted. I was not. They did not want to give me a provisional ballot. I called to find out if my registration had made it. They looked and looked supposedly. Said it wasnt there. About two weeks after the election, I received my registration card in the mail. This was the election in which the early votes were tabulated using an interesting algorithm. Each Bush vote resulted in an Algore vote as well. This resulted in there being more total votes cast than there were voters. Media caught the shenanigans. Bush was ahead. Then some county south of Albuquerque found 500 Gore votes mysteriously. Algore won NM by a few hundred votes.
This year, an absentee ballot was delivered to our current address for a previous resident. From Jacksonville. I wonder whether that person voted provisionally or if she had requested her absentee ballot be sent to her new location and it was sent here instead. (military family)
How can you register at age 17?
Im from Mississippi. At the time I registered, there was no election between the date I registered and my birthday. My high school Government/Economics teacher gave us extra credit if we registered to vote. So I did. A friend and I drove downtown and registered together. (Jackson, MS)
Still, I thought you had to be 18 to even register.
I registered during the Reagan years. It mustve been legal because my teacher told all of her students to register. I dont know how many did. At the time there was no motor voter registration. In Jackson you had to drive downtown amongst all the big buildings including the Old Capitol, Governors Mansion, City Hall, etc. We thought we were important peeps to be so civic minded as high schoolers. Hah. I dont recall if we had to show our drivers licenses. Im sure I told the lady my age. She just added me to the registered voters from my house. These days, I doubt I would let my girls drive around that area of Jackson without a police escort.
