GOP congressional candidate Katie Arrington is blaming her defeated GOP primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford, for her stunning loss to Democrat Joe Cunningham on Tuesday in South Carolina’s coastal 1st District.

Meanwhile, S.C. Democrats on Wednesday were savoring a stunning upset, as they reclaimed a U.S. House seat they have not held for almost 40 years.

Don’t know if Sanford actively worked against Arrington but he obviously did nothing to help. That and Arrington really was not proactive during the campaign. Was it her injuries or overconfidence?

mark sanford has been personally erratic for 15 years. hopefully, this marks the end of mark’s road, and he can’t cause any more trouble.

VA-7 was redistricted, that was the primary difference there.

I think we really need to concentrate on voter fraud if areas that have been in Republican hands for 40 years flip. This is ridiculous. There is NO WAY that District should have flipped. Is there ANY oversight in this area?

Arrington should blame Arrington. That’s where the problem lies. Blame her support of the gas tax and general RINOism while trying to pretend to be a Trump Republican. It isn’t genuine and people didn’t buy it.

“Was it her injuries...”

Injuries? I hadn’t heard anything about that. What happened?

I hope we can get that seat back in two years.

. . . Cunningham is a guaranteed one-termer. First, he’s going to prove himself to be a liar in his first week after he becomes Nancy Pelosi’s bitch — he swore he would be independent.

Then, the GOP just needs to run a real candidate. Arrington was right on the issues, but her presentation wasn’t, uh, stellar. You can win the nomination bashing a trump critic, but you can’t necessarily win the general bashing a trump critic.

Bad car wreck immediately after she won the primary. She was out of action for weeks.

And Rynn’s (er, RYNO) 40 “retirees” quitting before his promised “blue wave” opened 40 seats for the democrats.

A self-fulfilling prophecy, no?

The GROPElite RYNO’s hate Trump more than anything else.

Brat got redistricted, losing a lot of his suburban base.

Methinks Katie was blindsided by the good old boy network. Three republican mayors turned their backs on her.

Agreed about Mark Sanford.

I look at him now as opposed to the Mark Sanford who came in with the GOP Class of ‘94 and I think “What the hell happened to him”?

And Cantor's supporters did not help Brat in VA 7th

Corker refused to support Blackburn, Flake didn't support McSally, etc. All the retiring never Trumpers wanted "the party of Trump" to burn to the ground.

Like the majority of the Southern coastal areas areas SC has been taken over by Northerners. RINO, Trump-hating Sanford not endorsing Arrington was a big factor in her losing to a democrat, but SC has too many Yankees that’s moved into the state. Hell, most people in Charleston and other coastal towns sound more Yankee than Southern. The futher you get from Charleston the more you’ll hear southern talk. I’m from the sticks in eastern NC and I still have a think southern accent, as does my brother whose lived in the Charleston area for 50 years. His Charleston-born wife and and children don’t. They sound like Yankees.

Sixth district in GA was held by Newt, Isakson, Tom Price and even held in the post 2016 Trump hate when Handle beat Ossoff but it looks like she’s lost that seat. It was GOP around forty years.

Arrington was involved in a head-on auto accident just after the primary election. Her healing did require surgery. Whether or not this limited her ability to campaign I am not certain.

I'm guessing the later. She probably took a page out of Hillary Clinton's book and didn't run to win but rather ran not to lose. That seldom works.

Of course, no need to look at suburban women, Trump-haters and MB’s “keepin’ it real” crowd as a possible cause for the Democrat victory.
