I was taught that ASSault is the ASSumption of pain coming your way. It’s not the actual hit, it’s the movements, actions preceding the hit.
BATtery is the hit, the whack with the baseball bat.
Lil Jim should be charged with Assault AND Battery, as he did both. And then his sentence should be wearing a sandwich board stating “I’m Lil Jimmy Acosta, and I acosted (*yeah, lets hope he was saying something to that woman, we’ll stack the charges with “accosting” just for the hell of it) a woman, so I have to wear this sign for one month in front of the White House.
