Hilarious Coverage: MSNBC beclowned themselves handling Gillum’s loss in Florida

The most hilarious coverage of the midterms was MSNBC’s handling of  Andrew Gillum’s losing campaign for Florida’s governorship. The 90% of the media that hates Trump and his supporters really, really wanted Andrew Gillum to win: he’s a radical leftist who is charismatic, articulate, and very left wing. Oh, and he is black, which means he has the potential to drive black turnout to Obama-like levels.

MSNBC reported a Gillum victory before voting even started.  Erik Pederson and David Robb of Deadline.com noticed a bit of wishful thinking at the Peacock Network’s cable propaganda outlet, MSNBC Monday night:

MSNBC screen grab via Deadline.com

“Quick clarification here,” a rather embarrassed All In host Chris Hayes told viewers. “Just want to say, earlier this hour, uh, we showed a graphic of the Florida gubernatorial race. May have caught your eye because our system had inadvertently populated some test numbers. Obviously, we do not yet have any vote totals here, the night before the election. That was a misfire. Don’t worry. I was pretty confused when I saw it up there, to see it myself.”

When actual votes started coming in, MSNBC was still pretty certain that Gillum would win. They clung to that hope so long that they were forced to cut away from their coverage of  Gillum’s concession before they called the race for him:

Nicole Wallace, formerly a Republican and now a rabid Trump-hater, noticed that they had been handling this race with a bit too much optimism on Gillum:

But predictably, blame for the loss was placed on Rrrrracism! And equally predictabley, it was Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post flinging the poo.

CNN kept saying lots of votes still left and finally conceded that it looked bleak.

Hat tip to Mark Levin, who was on the air frantically begging voters in the Florida Panhandle to get out and vote before 8.

The first one to mention race is the racist.

They also outed themselves as NPC’s.

RE: Well, Flori-DUH got saved from the commie and useless old fart,

Only by a squeaker. The worrying thing is this — Most Democrats who won, won by large margins, most Republicans who won, won by squeakers ( including Ted Cruz ).

This country is hanging by a thread....

Exactly right. It's true that there's good news: Gillum, "Beto", and (presumably) Abrams lost. The bad news is that they lost by very small margins rather than by 1-2 percentage points. In conservative Georgia and Texas, Abrams and "Beto" should have lost by double digits. And even though Florida has long been a moderate swing state, the Democrats who won or came close to winning in the past tended to be pragmatists rather than far-left types like Gillum.

What this means is that all it will take is a few more college kids being motivated to vote, and a higher share of recent Third World immigrants becoming citizens and voting to push even "red" states over the edge.

And let’s note with concern that Florida has two trends going against it maintaining RED:

1) A whole swath of Puerto Ricans who moved there as a result of the devastating hurricanes ( and of course, the financial crisis of that island ).

2) New Yorkers and New Jerseians who go to escape their high taxes ( these folks bring their voting habits with them ).

It won’t be long before Florida will have a state tax.

Just like the California hipsters who flee for Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas from their native state because CA taxes are too high, and then push for the very policies that drove those taxes up so high in CA to begin with.

Arizona is another state where the Republican candidate (McSally) should have won by double digits against a liberal loon but only squeaked by on a tiny margin - just like Georgia and Texas. Combination of California liberal transplants plus a more politically active Hispanic population.

RE: I thinks its in the FL constitution .

You mean they’ll have to repeal the constitution to have a state tax?

I’m a Native Floridian. What we’re seeing is the natural progression of North easterners who have relocated and brought their progressive politics with them. The amazing part about it is they will openly tell you the taxes in New York or New Jersey were not sustainable because they retired. Florida was a natural fit because they sold their overpriced tax burden and came to Florida, purchased a nice house for WAY less than what their home “up north” sold for and pocketed the difference. They get absolutely giddy about it. I even know of one who is an adjunct professor and loves the fact Florida has no income taxes. Every damn one of them is a registered Dem.
