"PolitiFact is biased," our critics charge. We see this in emails and on social media, especially in the heat of election season.
We expect it. Afterall, as an independent group measuring accuracy, we are disrupting the agendas of partisans and political operatives across the ideological spectrum. We do it to give people the information they need to govern themselves in a democracy, and to uphold the tradition of a free and independent press.
Still, we think its worth explaining our mission and methods, both to answer those who make the charge against us, and for our supporters when confronted by naysayers.
1. We fact-check inaccurate statements, not political parties.
2. We follow the facts, not fact-check count formulas.
3. We make mistakes sometimes, but we correct our errors promptly.
4. Reader support allows us to stay independent.
I rate their response as “Totally False”
“PolitiFact is not biased”
I give that one 4 Pinocchios.
Snopes probably agrees that they aren’t biased
I work in an aviation Quality Assurance dept. We have a saying “if your explaining, your losing”.
Sure you are. /eyeroll
Ah yes, here’s the PolitiFact way of telling the “twuth”:
The US and China had a race. The US won.
PolitiFact reported:
The US and China had a race. (true)
Russia came in second. (true)
The US came in next to last. (also true)
Oops, mistyped “Russia” in the second part.
Gasp, I’m becoming a Pelosi.
I’m so Go**amn tired of this democracy crap. We are NOT a democracy. Democracy is mob rule, no checks or balances. Whatever 50%+1 says, goes. Two wolves and a sheep deciding on the dinner menu. If the majority want slavery, slavery is what we’ll have. If the majority want to outlaw abortion, so be it. If the majority wants to execute blacks, say goodbye.
We are a Constitutional Republic, with checks, balances, and representatives to supposedly represent US rather than the mob. A Constitutional Republic arms the sheep during the menu selection. Anyone that even says democracy really hasn’t the slightest idea of how this country works. We need a voting test so ignorant morons can’t be bought with promises and baubles. Prove you understand our Republic.
PolitiFact lost all credibility when they excused a lawyer later convicted of fraud of trying to buy his way onto the panel recommending judges with a huge donation to Charlie Crist when he was governor. It did a HUGE sidestep trying to say the one was not a payoff for the other when anyone with half a brain saw it. At the same time it went out of its way to call anything said or done by a Republican that would be negative to be true.
Ummmm ... perhaps you mean 'China' in place of 'Russia' here?
Actually it was more true to form for PolitiFact that way.
AFAIK, Politifact is run by the Tampa Bay Times......not biased??? BWAHAHAHAHA!
