I guess they split their closing times?

Indiana: 6 p.m. (6 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST)
Kentucky: 6 p.m. (6 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST)
from USA Today

The polls close at 6 PM local time statewide. The closing times aren’t split - the time zones split the state.

Remember in 2000 - in Florida, the panhandle polls remained open, the most conservative part of the state, but all the media repeatedly kept announcing all of the polls were closed, and even called the state for Gore - while the polls were in fact still open - it was estimated that cost Bush a net of 10,000 votes because people did not vote because they were told the polls were closed and Gore had already won the state. Had that not occurred, all of the drama would never have occurred that occurred in the month and a half that followed. Extraordinary how close the media came to pulling that off. A lawsuit was filed against the networks and it was settled with an agreement they would not announce polls were closed while they were in fact still open.

In my above post I was talking about Kentucky and Indiana closing at 6 PM local time - Florida I believe is 7 PM local time.
