Jones and Fonda shared a close associate in left-wing lawyer Mark Lane, a known distributor of disinformation originating with the KGB, who assisted Fonda on the Vietnam “war crimes” tribunal and who also represented People’s Temple. Prior to the massacre, Lane wrote a letter to Congressman Leo Ryan threatening to move Jonestown to the Soviet Union if the U.S. government didn’t stop investigating Jones. $500,000 from Jonestown was earmarked for the Soviet Union at the time of the massacre, though the Guyanan government intercepted it. Side note: along with Lane, Jonestown was represented by Charles Garry, one of Hillary Clinton’s mentors at Yale; Hillary got a job in San Francisco through her association with Garry working for a law firm that represented left-wing causes in the area, while Jones was active in SF.
I should add, according to Garry, Jones’ will left all his money to the Communist Party if none of Jones’ family survived.
