For all the media fixation on the "lies" President Trump tells, sometimes he has an uncanny knack of telling the unvarnished truth.
So it was on Friday night when Trump told those gathered at a West Virginia rally: "Sometimes its not as exciting to talk about the economy because we have a lot of other things to talk about."
That unscripted line left some Republican strategists nodding in agreement and wondering about what might have been. Republicans are bracing for the loss of the House of Representatives with operatives citing the lack of a coherent economic message and unnecessary distractions as decisive factors.

No, Grover Norquist has been one of the biggest behind the scenes players in making sure the GOP was not on the side of the citizens and the rule of law and that the citizens would have no way to stop the Cheap Labor Express.
.....Will this idiot [Norquist] EVER stop weeping over illegals?....
Not if they’re his Muslim buddies.
And Luntz predicted Hillary
He is a dope, he is also a crypto-Muzzleman just like Brennan. Grover who was famous for being one of the two or three must inept men inside the beltway when it came to the opposite sex suddenly married a very dishy Muslim lass. Two things; a Muslim woman can't marry a Kufer. She is considered an apostate if she does. The only way that shlub Grover got his lovely wife in the sack was by becoming a muzzleman. I am not joking GN would stammer and blush and start sweating when he tried to have conversation in a social setting with a female. He thinks open borders are great and probably wants the US to be like Sweden.
“Sometimes its not as exciting to talk about the economy because we have a lot of other things to talk about.”
Trump touts the economic resurgence at every opportunity. He may have in mind getting into the weeds that economists enjoy.
First, we need to elect Republicans instead of Democrats to advance Trump’s election.
He also said he was no longer part of the GOP Party, when it appeared that they were going to lose.
Trump talks about two major issues, prosperity AND security!
The problem with this line of analysis is that campaign messages are developed months before the election. Last week’s extraordinary economics numbers could not have been fully anticipated four months ago when the campaign message was being poll tested and a strategy contrived. Immigration and border protection are strong issues for Trump and his base, so those issues no doubt stood out at the time.
If Luntz thinks they blew it I am greatly encouraged.
After the impending disaster, the GOP remnant is going to blame Trump.
No doubt the same go along get along Republican strategists who puddle the floor at the slightest cross word from anyone on our side. Any lack of coherent economic message by House Republicans is entirely their fault. They've had two years to figure out how to defend against and attack the opponents coming for them. From what I can see, they still don't have a clue.
Here in the People's Republic of New York, the hottest race is the 19th Congressional District where incumbent John Faso is fighting against socialist darling Antonio Delgado. One of the most potent charges is that Faso voted to eliminate preexisting conditions coverage. Another tactic is Delgado claiming he's going to do this and that if he's elected. Faso's answer is to have a commercial with his wife saying how wonderful her husband was when she was fighting cancer.
What Faso should be doing, as well as the other Republicans, is stating the cold, hard facts: Delgado and the rest of his Democrat cronies are not going to do anything if they take over the House because the President will just veto any of their garbage that hits his desk and they won't have the votes to override. So people are just throwing away their votes for someone who is going to accomplish less than zero.
