Old enough to remember taking my swats (which I richly deserved) in both elementary and high school without crying about being mistreated.
I would no more have considered attacking one of my teachers than I would have considered swimming to the moon.
It was called “RESPECT FOR YOUR ELDERS”.
Had I taken a shot at one of my teachers I would have expected to get my ass beat; then get thrown out of school forever and sent to what we used to call Juvenile Hall.
Prison for young men and women who were unable get along in a civil society.
Young people today want to vote at the age of 18 but want to be protected by society and the courts as if they are children until they are 21?
That doesn’t work with me.
At the age of 18 I was under arms in the Marine Corps serving my first tour, kids today at 18 are still living in mommy and daddy’s house, collecting all the benefits and contributing nothing in return, then bitching when mommy and daddy wont buy them a new car.
So in answer to your question; yeah, I’m old, old enough to remember the REAL WORLD.

Good for you. Had someone taken a swat atca teacher in my day, they would have been expelled. No one would have gotten their ass beat.

Although I have never seen that.

You certainly make lots of assumptions about 18 year olds. Perhaps those are the kids you know in your area. They certainly do not represent the kids I know. Although my son works full time in his career, he’s here with me at home since I’m a bone marrow transplant patient.

He’s made a sacrifice while I’m trying to get on my feet. In the mean time, he’s saving a lot of money. I hope he uses it to travel and enjoy life. Larger financial sacrifices happen as the years go by.

Personally, I think 18 y/o is too young for kids to be on their own. They need to spend time preparing during these super critical years - college, training, saving, and maturing - so, when they do get out, they are mentally and financially prepared.

Just as you were taken care of so to speak while in the marines. They provided shelter, meals, etc. structure is still needed at 18 years old.

Btw, I do agree this boy belongs in Juvie. The teacher kept his composure as long as possible. Unfortunately tho - he did snap. Perhaps justified, but, it still is not legal. It was not self defense tho. The time for self defense had long gone by and he just lost his cool.

It’s a shame because it sounds like he was a great teacher. Even the students are defending the teacher. But, laws are laws. We don’t get to pick and chose who they get applied to.
