Guns, fully automatic assault rifles should have been drawn, loaded, ready to fire at the first sign of aggression, with one agent covering the other.

Who knows, they never had any good leads to follow. It remains unsolved by the FBI.
Despite the FBI’s conclusion that there’s no evidence of an attack, the Border Patrol union still believes the agent’s injuries were the result of an attack.
“Our view hasn’t changed. Our view is he was attacked,” Chris Cabrera, a spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council told CNN referring to the FBI’s investigation. “It seems to me that they don’t have any leads.”
Hostile and perfidious media coverage kills as well.
If the agents had used their weapons to defend themselves, they’d be looking at a strong possibility of spending the rest of their lives in prison.
The personnel in the media need to be held accountable for the lives they cost.

The agents’ union remains convinced it was murder. A union official, not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, noted the agents were hurt while investigating possible smuggling activity in the culvert.
“They both know there’s a culvert there, and they both fell off? It doesn’t make sense,” said the union rep.
The investigation remains open. The El Paso medical examiner concluded that Martinez died from blunt injuries to the head, but the manner of death remains, officially, undetermined.
