Asylum seekers turned away from border bridges ahead of caravan [ACLU WATCH]

[Creepy Immigration Lawyer Alert]

EL PASO, Texas - Migrants arriving at the U.S. border to seek asylum are routinely subjected to tactics that immigration rights advocates say are designed to drive them away in violation of their rights under federal law.

The tactics include forcing them to wait at the border indefinitely or sending them back into Mexico to join a backlogged list maintained by Mexican immigration officials.

The Trump administration says such measures are necessary because it is not equipped to deal with a large increase in the number of asylum seekers, many of them from Central America. Last year, U.S. immigration courts handled 120,000 asylum requests...

...U.S. Customs and Border Protection "is violating the law and turning away asylum seekers on Texas bridges," said Shaw Drake, an El Paso-based attorney with the Texas ACLU's Border Rights Center.

He said forcing immigrants to join a long waiting list is tantamount to turning them away.

WOW! The first two paragraphs are BLINDINGLY stupid!

My brother in law took 15 years to become an American Citizen the legal way. I would suggest this caravan wait 15 years in Mexico and make it Mexico's problem as they have no legal rights until adjudicated via normal immigration procedures.

This is false. Is the author stupid? They do not have rights under our federal law when they are not yet within our jurisdiction. On the south south of the border the only law in effect that applies to them is that of Mexico.

he’s having an existential crisis at the moment. He’s digesting that with all the millions he gave to ‘disadvantaged’ countries, that he could have invested in American children instead, has made matters worse not better.

Yep. Asylum OK when it is for maybe two or three Aleksandr Solzhenitsyns, or Albert Einsteins, but thousands at once? No! Let them stay at home and fox their own country, with bloodshed--if necessary--to drive the point home to their descendants.

They need to buy their own freedom in place, not ship their malcontents and criminals off to the U. S. to turn it into a morass like the one that they are "escaping" and haven't the will to hang bullies and tyrants.

It’s obvious that the powers behind the euro invasion are ramping up against us now. I guess Trump threw a wrench in their plans when he won the white house.

Sad trombone. All the asylum claims are BS.

Especially since they've all been offered asylum in Mexico. Those being turned back have already declined an offer of asylum.

Forget Disneyland - they also want socialized medicine even though those with it often wait years for some procedures....

claim asylum, which they can do based on fear of persecution due to their race, religion, nationality, social group or political opinion.

According to their own definition, none of the people they interviewed fit in the ‘asylum’ category.

Nonsense. Unless they are from Mexico, they must claim asylum in the first country they enter. They cannot pick and choose where they want their asylum to be.

If they are not Mexicans, and they did not claim asylum in Mexico, then they do not qualify as refugees.
