How can you know what your Federal income tax will be for 2018, when it’s only October?

Serious question.

I quit using turbotax last year. Every year it was $5 or $10 more, even with a discount.

I use this now. Has all the forms with it.

How can you know what your Federal income tax will be for 2018, when it’s only October?

When you're on fixed income as retirees, and you have a pretty good idea of what your non-SS/non-pension income will be, you can get pretty close. Exceptions would be unexpected medical expenses (and a possible increase in deductions). Other than that, we are fairly close to what I estimated earlier this year.
