Thousands of US soldiers depleted all of the beer in Iceland’s capital over the weekend.
More than 6,000 soldiers were in Reykjavik for four days participating in the Trident Juncture 18 — a NATO-led military exercise. After their drills, the troops reportedly visited the city’s downtown bars, where they finished off the entire beer supply.
According to Icelandic magazine Visir, the brewery Ölgerð Egils Skallagrímssonar had to send emergency cases of beer to the bars.

Reading the headline, I thought this might be about the troops being deployed to the southern border.
During my first year in Germany (1977), my platoon sergeant and his wife arranged a tour of the Konigsbacher Brewery for my platoon.
The tour began at 1 PM, lasting nearly two hours...very thorough and informative. We were then taken down to one of their tasting rooms. They served us a full meal of ham, potato salad and brotchen, telling us we could stay until they closed at 6 PM.
We had to leave at 5:30, as we polished off the keg in the tasting room.
I found out they had a great restaurant on the premises, which served bock beer year round. I think I drove up to Koblenz one Sunday a month to eat and drink there. It had a great view of the Rhine River, too.
Back in the early Sixties, with the Berlin Crisis, my late Dad and two Uncles were in the 32nd Infantry Division (Red Arrow), activated and sent to Ft. Lewis, WA. Olympic Beer was on its last legs when that happened. A couple of weeks after the the 32d arrived at Ft. Lewis, Oly had to put on a third shift!
But if you seen what Icelandic women look like, you understand why they are especially enjoying the Oversexed part in Iceland
That was “Olympia Beer”, not “Olympic Beer”. My bad. I need to be banned from FR for eternity for that mistake. Let the FR Police know about this severe transgression.
Although news media frequently refer to any U.S. troops as “soldiers”, the bulk of the U.S. troops in the Icelandic exercise are Marines and sailors.
No surprise that this grouping would pretty quickly suck up the beer supply. There is a reputation to uphold; fight hard, party hard. Semper Fi.
