Stopping the Caravan
National Review ^ | October 26, 2018 | Mark Krikorian

...

The problem is an overly permissive asylum system (including rules for dealing with illegal-alien minors) that has become the preferred way to penetrate our borders for those with no other way to do so. And only Congress can fix that.

In a sense, forcing Mexico to stop the caravans before they get to our border, or even declaring a Mass Immigration Emergency, really just lets congressional Democrats off the hook. Given the persistence of the filibuster rule requiring a supermajority for the passage of any legislation to plug border leaks (like the Flores agreement and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act — both regarding minors — and low standards for establishing the “credible fear” needed to justify asylum) or to increase detention capacity, Chuck Schumer has an effective veto over efforts to enforce the border. Political pressure must be brought to bear on Democratic lawmakers, not just through White House statements, but also by the Republican leadership in Congress forcing them to vote on targeted measures addressing specific vulnerabilities.

But a longer-term plan is also needed. As border control improves and we (hopefully) do a better job of policing legal visitors to ensure their timely departure, bogus claims of asylum are going to become the primary way to circumvent immigration limits. One concept that must be operationalized both in statute and through bilateral agreements is “safe third country.” The 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, the U.N. treaty that governs these matters, says states must recognize the refugee status of aliens “coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened.” People who pass through other countries with asylum systems (such as Mexico) should not be permitted even to apply for asylum because they are, by definition, no longer fleeing persecution.

We need to deal with the now not the tomorrow. Im sure the military have the humanitarian equipment (intestinal frequency exciter) to persuade these invaders to think twice without an altercation or a shot fired. The joy of this being implemented is the so called American activists and legal aides helping these invaders will also be treated to this military humanitarian experience as well.

But, they’ve already said why they are coming...for jobs. Which isn’t a reason for asylum.

However, I say let them come. Follow them. Wait for them to get a job and then hammer the ever living sh*t out of the business owner.

If they give birth to a US citizen, I mean a baby born in a US hospital, then as soon as possible, deport the mother.

We need an immigration plan/policy that helps the country by selecting the most beneficial applicants that we ALLOW into the country to contribute. Now, if we want to save a few slots as a charity to asylum-seekers, then pick a number and limit it. But, we can’t have an immigration policy based solely on allowing only the wretched who have little/no hope of contributing to the community. That’s suicide.

Mark Krikorian is falling for the fallacy of treating the caravan as an immigration issue. It is not; it is an invasion.

It is no different than any nation sending 15,000 troops marching toward the border, just minus arms (theoretically). Some of these people do have arms.

Would 15,000 Chinese military aged men be allowed to walk in while everyone wrings their hands as if it were an immigration issue to be handled by a Federal judge?

Congress, Senators & all politicians running for office should be lined up @ the border to greet them.

The invaders have to be stopped OUTSIDE U.S. borders. I do not believe that Federal courts have jurisdiction on U.S. action on foreign soil involving non-citizens. If the invaders gain entry some dumb ass federal court somewhere is standing by right now to enjoin the deportation of the lawbreakers and a costly, long-running circus will begin.

The Senate must enact the nuke option for bills dealing with national security issues, horde invasion being one of them.

I’d prefer we do away with the filibuster altogether, or make it a 3 day maximum.

And your plan? Stop them at the border with the 82nd Airborne, baiting them so the media can take as much film as possible and blare it, 24/7, blaming the President, the whole time.

It was reported that the military being deployed to the southern border will have Jersey barriers....and there was a lot of caustic comment that the invaders can just hop over

However...check these applications of the Jersey barriers:

And here is how the razor wire gets rapidly deployed:
