Brazilians elected Jair Bolsonaro of the right-wing Social Liberal Party (PSL) their new president Sunday, granting him a double-digit lead over socialist opponent Fernando Haddad. Bolsonaro won the first round of voting in early October, but not by more than the 50 percent needed to prevent a second round runoff against the runner-up. While his lead diminished somewhat in the past week, official vote tallies counting 98.5 percent of precincts confirm Bolsonaro winning with over 55 percent of the vote.

My brother’s Brazilian girlfriend is delighted with Bolsinaro’s victory. Now an American citizen, she voted for Trump and sees them as representing common ideas and aspirations. Who knows but we may in time see the entire hemisphere revitalized by an American-Brazilian alliance that promotes conservative policies.

At Christmas, my brother’s Chilean gf told me she is very happy for their version of a Donald Trump for similar reasons.
I saw a vid abt the new Brazilian Prez a few days ago on YT, put out by the NY Times, and one from earlier today abt how he has many female supporters also by the same.
We all know exactly how they feel.

Far-right lawmaker Jair Bolsonaro won......Many Brazilians are concerned that Bolsonaro, an admirer of Brazil's 1964-1985 military dictatorship and a defender of its use of torture on leftist opponents, will trample on human rights, curtail civil liberties and muzzle freedom of speech.....has vowed to crack down on crime in Brazil's cities and farm belt by granting police more autonomy to shoot at criminals. He also wants to let more Brazilians buy weapons to fight crime.
