The aunt of Cesar Sayoc told The Palm Beach Post that Sayoc is “a lost soul,” is mentally ill and believes he most likely did not act alone in connection with the explosive packages sent to prominent figures around the nation.
Speaking from her home in Boca Raton, Theresa Sharp said she hasn’t seen Sayoc in 12 years but knows Sayoc does not live with his mother in Aventura because “he does not have a good relationship with her.”
“He has no respect for his mother and would tell people she was dead,” Sharp said, who was dressed in a conservative pink dress, wearing glasses and her hair back in a bun. “But he was a good kid and very loving — someone put him up to this.”

“When I saw him in the news this morning I almost fainted,” Sharp added, as she stood outside the door of her quaint, yellow, one-story home. “He’s not a killer.” Sharp said Sayoc has been living around in his van for years traveling the country from job to job. He “never had any money,” and became homeless when his grandmother, now deceased, sold her home in 2006 “to get him out,” Sharp said.
His grandmother, who is Sharp’s mother, was the only relative Cesar had a good relationship with and would tell people that she was his mother, Sharp said.

Sharp believes someone paid Cesar to mail the bombs because he “is a loving person.”
Cesar’s mother had surgery Friday morning because she is very ill, Sharp said. He has two sisters who also do not have a good relationship with him and were with his mother Friday at a hospital in Aventura. Sharp said she wanted to go visit her sister but was told by her nieces not to come because of constant media visits and the FBI investigating the Aventura apartment.
“I’m totally embarrassed and feel bad for my sister more than anything. I hope she is OK,” Sharp said.
Sayoc, 56, was arrested Friday morning at a business in Plantation.

Sharp said that Sayoc was not living in Aventura with his mother, as many news outlets have reported.
“My sister would throw him out so fast you would have no idea,” Sharp said. “I don’t even know why FBI agents are there. He’s never been there.”
Sayoc’s mental illness and resentment toward his mother started during his childhood, after his mother divorced his father and remarried, Sharp explained. Sayoc’s father, who is from the Philippines, allegedly left his mother for six months without any contact and had a child with someone else, Sharp said.
Sharp added that Sayoc’s mother sent him to military school when he was 11. She did not say when he left the school.

What ever he is, he will now be spending the rest of his miserable life in jail.
There are several still active military boarding schools for boys, primarily on the East Coast. Some historic ones HS graduates will matriculate to West Point or the Naval Academy.
In this case, he likely had become incorrigible and she was searching for strict discipline.
