Man, the
White Christmas Minstrel Number said it all. They were saying, "Hey, remember all those minstrel shows? They were fun!" No they weren't fun, they were demeaning and we don't want them any more.
Blackface in and of itself is not the problem - it's the fact that minstrel shows existed in the past.

How come minstrel shows weren’t fun? I have books on the subject and they were quite entertaining. Distinctly un-pc today but they were very popular in their time. I doubt they’ll come back into fashion although a good friend of mine (an actor “of color”) had a show about it and did an amazing cake walk. This was in the 1980s when we weren’t so very sensitive.

Minstrel shows were great fun and did NOT demean blacks as the left would have you believe.

We studied minstrel shows in Music History class. That was an interesting period.
