Wow! Just watched the video. Mcconnell, leader of the US senate has no security at all in a restaurant!!? Very very scared for him in todays Maxine Waters hate climate. Every single elected republican especially in leadership needs an armed security detail in public right now.

Yes. Yours is the correct takeaway, as opposed to hyperventilation about a "mob", and so on. This easily could have been a lone, perhaps suicidal killer.
I am sure that McConnell & Chao just want to have at least at times a "normal", non-celebrity life, and not have a phalanx of armed guards "cocooning" them if they just want to grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant. But at least a couple Secret Service agents in plainclothes, nearby, would seem to be an acceptable compromise.
An announcement of unspecified random security measures might also be helpful.
Of course, if you want maximum deterrence, have the security show up as Narn warriors. Or, Klingons in a pinch.
I have been saying the same thing for months. McConnell is the leader of the US Senate. Why can’t he bring legalization for all members of Congress to have Federal. Marshals or Secret a Service protection? The cost would be tiny as compared to say how much free money we give to Planned Butcherhood every year.
