"A fight broke out between Khashoggi and the people who met him in the consulate and lead to his death, they say."

“I don’t know if he was a good guy or a bad guy.”
Bad Guy.
He was de facto head of the Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia, where he had most of his two million Twitter followers. He was recently setting up a network that he called DAWN (Democracy in the Arab World Now), dedicated to overthrowing the Saudi Monarchy.
The Muslim Brotherhood’s essential goal is to leverage democratic processes, and the vulnerabilities of Democratic societies to gain power. Once they gain power though, democracy is to be abandoned, and a permanent dictatorship with sharia law installed. Like President Erdogan in Turkey (currently the biggest State Sponsor of the Muslim Brotherhood) says, “Democracy is like a train that you get off, when you get to your station.”
He has been a leading proponent within Saudi Arabia, that their oil wealth and National Intelligence capabilities be used to systematically subvert countries around the world to sharia-ruled dictatorships, under the guise of democratic revolts.
He was a very bad guy. Good riddance.
15 against 1
There was no fight.
Slick Willy's FBI was unable to do anything about it.
Khashoggi was arguably the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Saudi Arabia - at least he was the most recognized face of the movement there.
President Erdogan is the biggest State sponsor of the Muslim Brotherhood in the World today. The leadership of the Brotherhood now live in Turkey as guests of the Government, after the military coup drove them from Egypt.
I believe that is the main reason Khashoggi went to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul - he knew he needed strong protection, after having publicly taken a stand opposing the Saudi King and Government for the last year, and setting up an organization (DAWN - Democracy in the Arab World Now) dedicated to overthrowing the Saudi Government. He had taken treasonous actions far in excess of what is needed for a death sentence in the Kingdom.
I doubt that Khashoggi would have dared to set foot into a Saudi Embassy without assurances of protection from Turkish Intelligence. The Saudis are well known for Rendition (kidnapping) of Saudis around the world, to face Saudi justice back home. He may very well have been there on behalf of Turkish Intelligence, as a rep of the Brotherhood, with the whole divorce thing just being a cover story.
Jamal’s billionaire uncle Adnan Khashoggi was a long time Intel operative, who played a big role in the Iran Contra Affair in the 1980’s. Jamal was raised inside spy society, and has been taking a role in it his whole adult life.

[From back in 2015:
“Riyadh (AFP) - Saudi Arabia advertised vacancies for eight executioners Tuesday after beheading nearly as many people since the start of the year as it did in the whole of 2014.”

They must be Sopranos-trained.
The Khobar Towers bombers were Shi’ites, who were working for Iran.
The Saudis have a significant Shi’ite minority in their Eastern Province, and Iran has long promoted a network of agents among them. Long before the mullahs took over in Iran, from the very beginning of the Saudi Monarchy, Governor of the Eastern Province has always been viewed as a position for a pipe-hitting strongman, specifically to control those Shi’ites. Swift executions for traitorous Shi’ites - especially agents of Iran - is almost a given.
“I don’t know if he was a good guy or a bad guy.”
From the NY Times:
“Years later, after American commandos killed Bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011, Mr. Khashoggi mourned his old acquaintance and what he had become.
I collapsed crying a while ago, heartbroken for you Abu Abdullah, Mr. Khashoggi wrote on Twitter, using Bin Ladens nickname. You were beautiful and brave in those beautiful days in Afghanistan”
The Crown Prince in Saudi Arabia (MBS) is rooting out the heart of the islamist infrastructure faster and deeper than we possibly could - because the very -center of gravity and main resources are Saudi Citizens and Government. Jamal Khashoggi was a big wheel in that movement.
We won’t have to spend billions and send tens of thousands of our young soldiers to fight with the young recruits of the islamist ringleaders, if the Saudis will chop up those ringleaders for us.
The world is a better place without him. Who cares how he died?
Hard to believe MBS would order or condone this kind of hit, so brazen, so public, hard to imagine he wouldn’t feel the wrath of the West down his throat. Could it have been a set-up with the goal that would lead to his ouster, even his demise?
Never bring your fists to a bonesaw fight.
Could be
I’m going to try to remember that.
I feel like I’m in the middle of a real life novel. Everyday, I can’t wait to get home to pick up where I left off. Forget dinner! Just pour a glass of wine, sit back with my tablet, and read away. Next thing I know, it’s past bedtime, and if I don’t put this “book” down and get to sleep, I’ll never make it to work on time. Then the next day comes and it’s, well, time to get to it all over again! So much to read! So little time!
Bingo. You win the prize.
Can you say Syria?
He was just another spy working for WaPo. It’s why no one should read WaPo.
....then while staggering from the fight, accidentally tripped and fell into the wood chipper that was shooting chunks of wood into a vat of sulphuric acid and lye, hooked up to a steel conveyer belt Dumping waste into a incinerator that was depositing ashes into a cement mixer. Just a crazy crazy accident that could happen to anyone. Ask Jimmy Hoff....oh right.
