If they put as much money into research for cures for cancer and heart disease, we'd all live to be 100.

But when you're fighting God's word, no expense is too extravagant to enable degenerate lifestyles.

You need to look at the numbers. Cancer funding dwarfs all other research areas combined. HIV gets maybe 5% of what breast cancer gets, for example.

We should all care about HIV research because of the knowledge it adds to our understanding of virology and immunology. We should also care about those who contract it.

While not a vaccine, PrEP fills a similar role. It should be routine medication prescribed for men who have sex with other men. Let's be real though. However we feel about choices made or actions taken around around us we should not want to see HIV spread unchecked unless you forget how things were looking in the 1980s.
