“Vietnam War veteran sentenced to 7 years in prison for buying “rare” gun in the 1980”

His crime was not having the $200 federal tax stamp. He didn’t pay the $200 tax.

After the disaster at Appomattox, I was afraid something like this would happen. The man is probably lucky he was not killed outright.

Why is it that when people deliberately cheat the government out of thousands of dollars in taxes, when they get caught they have to pay it back plus a fine and probation, rarely any jail time. However if it involves a measly 5 dollar tax to the atf for a sawed off shotgun or a 200 dollar tax on a full auto rifle, they go to jail?
