The New York Police Department on Thursday night made its first arrest of a suspected member of the far-right group the Proud Boys, who were involved in a street fight in New York City last week.
Geoffrey Young, 38, faces charges of rioting and attempted assault, the NYPD confirmed to The Hill. He was allegedly involved in a brawl between the Proud Boys and masked protesters believed to be part of the left-wing group Antifa.
The fight happened after a speech by Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes at the Metropolitan Republican Club on the Upper East Side. The group is made up of self-described “western chauvinists” and is labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The NYPD was initially criticized after arresting some protestors but failing to make an immediate arrest of any Proud Boys members.
The NYPD released a video earlier this week asking the public for help in identifying suspects involved in the fight. The video showed a protestor throwing a bottle at the Proud Boys, who then responded with punches, resulting in a chaotic melee.

Oh what a load of shit. The Proud Boys are not right wing and are not fascists AT ALL. They are composed of all races and are the ones out there confronting the National Socialists (aunty fa) while you all sit on your asses and post an occasional blurb on free republic.

I agree with everything you said, but in THIS PARTICULAR instance, there were many more PB’s than Antifa, and these particular PB’s are what I would classify as “bad guys.”
A New York State law prohibiting “being masked or in any manner disguised” in public has withstood legal challenges since 1845 and has been used recently. The police in New York City cited the mask law while arresting people associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011 and 2012.
Like the laws in other states, the New York statute includes exceptions for masquerade parties and other entertainment events. But unlike other states, New York did not pursue the legislation in response to the Ku Klux Klan. The law was intended to prevent the killing of landlords by tenant farmers in the Hudson Valley who dressed up as American Indians and wore disguises of calico gowns and leather masks.
They provoke people and only when the people they attack start defending themselves do they start recording.
The video makes them look like they were victims of an unprovoked attack.
I keep telling people, we have to record EVERYTHING.
Keep the cameras focused on the liberal mob. If you see a liberal mob start recording immediately.

How do we know that the “Proud Boys” aren’t just made up by the left to pretend they support Trump and create trouble?
