"People followed Jesus because he was attractive, touched hearts, made himself loved, Francis said, ..." Although Jesus was loved by his true followers, the misguided pope needs to read John 6:32-66. In that passage Jesus taught that he is the bread of life that came down from heaven.
But in contrast to Pope Francis statement about Jesus, John 6:60-64 shows that Jesus was aware that his teaching actually offended many people, verse 64 indicating that he knew that many of them did not believe in him.
Verse 66 then indicates that many people no longer followed Jesus after that time.
