Do the wives of former Presidents get secret service benefits for life?

Under a new law signed today (1/12/2013) by President Obama, all former U.S. presidents and first ladies will receive lifetime Secret Service protection.

The measure also authorizes protection for the children of former presidents until they are 16 years old.

wtf?

I thought sometime after 2000 (basically beginning with Bush) that former presidents were only to get 10 years protection.

so Obama renegged on that?
