She could have used this to her advantage. If she’d come out and said that, well, we had this great old family story, but, you know, sometimes family stories are just that. Now my DNA analysis has showed that it’s really unlikely that my great (however many greats it was originally) grandma was Cherokee after all! I was SO convinced that the family story was true, that I allowed Harvard to list me as Native American. I’m sorry now; if DNA had been readily avaiable back then, I would had it checked.
It really was a wonderful family story, and our family got so much enjoyment out of it, but as I said, sometimes a story is just that. In this, President Trump was absolutely right!
By the way, I’m making a donation to the Cherokee tribe, that wonderful group of people I so wish I really was a part of!
She could have said something like that and made herself look like a mature adult, gracious, and honest. She could have actually made something positive out of this and made herself look good.
For some reason, she doesn’t seem to be capable of that.
(My family had a Cherokee great-grandma story too, not borne out by DNA. We just shrug it off, and maybe joke about not getting “our” casino. )
