Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) leads West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey by a small margin, according to a poll released Tuesday.
Sen. Manchin leads Morrisey by four points49 to 45 percentin the heated West Virginia race. Thirty-six percent of West Virginia voters said they will definitely vote for Manchin, 11 percent will probably vote for the West Virginia Democrat, and two percent are leaning towards voting for him.
In contrast, 36 percent said they will definitely vote for Morrisey, eight percent will probably vote for the AG, and one percent lean towards voting for the West Virginia Republican. Three percent of West Virginia voters remain undecided.
An overwhelming number of West Virginia voters support President Donald Trump, and Manchin faces a tough re-election campaign in a state Trump won by more than 42 points in the 2016 presidential election.
Sixty-two percent of West Virginians approve of Trumps job performance. Among those voters, 55 percent strongly approve of the president, and eight percent somewhat approve of him. Only 35 percent disapprove of Trumps job performance, with four percent somewhat disapproving, and 30 percent strongly approving.
This newest poll shows a tight race between Manchin and Morrisey. A survey released last week found that Manchin and Morrisey have struck a virtual dead heat. The poll showed that Manchins favorability hit a new low: 45 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Manchin, while 50 percent of voters have an unfavorable view of the incumbent Democrat.
Another poll from Morning Consult found that Manchin was one of the top ten least popular senators.
Morrisey has attacked Manchin for portraying himself as a conservative lawmaker in West Virginia and then cozying up with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other leftist politicians in Washington, DC.

Again, whether you agree or not, he has won election with 60-70% of the vote in 3 straight statewide elections where the state went R for the. President. He has only lost one election in 26 years... you dont have that kind of support if you dont deliver for your state. Clearly the people of WV believe hes done well enough to support him at very high levels.
To belittle or dismiss this, or like others here to espouse that WV is just full of morons because they have voted for him is foolish.
You know for a guy who says he doesn’t like Manchin you sure get in a huff when someone states the obvious. And for some one who acts aghast that I would doubt the intelligence of some one who would vote for Democrat lackey it doesn’t seem to bother you to insult me. And the root of your argument is he’s a great politician....so was Clinton ...so was Obama. If there is any one who belongs at DU it’s you. I’m not the one defending this slime ball!!! As I said to the other person who pointed out my mistake on Pelosi I have a hard time distinguishing between my traitors!!!
The Morgantown Daily Mountaineer poll?
The Wheeling Gazette poll?
Maybe it's in the link.
I've never been to WV and I only know one person who is actually from WV so I'm just guessing, but I'm guessing there's a good chance that Joe Manchin is about to experience a change of employment...
Maybe I'm wrong though. We'll find out.
But people should realize the larger ramifications here.
It”s not about Manchin - it’s about Trump and the kind of America you want YOUR kids to grow up in -Trump’s or Chuckie’s.
A no brainer.
Ok I just moved back to WV.
I ask around and no one can tell me what he has actually delivered to the state as Senator! As governor he was a decent one, my late father once said, “ Manchin at least believes businesses should exist!”(Meaning an unusual notion for a WV labor Rat!) Manchin current support comes from name recognition, habit and his “success” as a governor. As a senator most people think he has been at best mediocre. I am told by people who know Manchin that he actually hates being a senator. His personality is much more suited for an executive position. They slow sonorous pace of the Senate plus his political mismatch with the rest of the Rats drives him crazy. For example after his first Senate term he briefly floated a scheme to try and come back and be governor again. I understand it didn’t fly with the rest of the WV Rat leadership.
Manchin is now down 2%
